GREENVILLE, N.C. - If you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner at your house tomorrow, you’re probably like me. You’ve been back and forth to the grocery store about a dozen times, you’ve been on your hands and knees scrubbing every nook and cranny in your home, you’ve already set the table, you have your kids outfits picked out, and so on and so on.
But it’s time we stop stressing and finally enjoy the holiday for what it is, a time to give thanks.
For today’s AnchorMOM segment, I talked to a self-help therapist and he has five-ways we can all have a stress-free, positive Thanksgiving.
One, be yourself. Don’t worry about impressing anyone with fancy decorations or out of this world food. You’re sharing this day with your family and friends, they love you for who you are.
Two, focus on the good stuff. Maybe you really can’t stay that in-law of yours…let it go. Holding a grudge is like having poison in your veins.
Three, make it fun and easy. If you don’t want to clean up that huge mess afterwards, leave the fancy china in the cabinet, and break out the plasticware.
Four, express your appreciation for others. There is nothing better than when someone say “thanks for being you and being in my life.” Take tomorrow to really say thanks.
And five, count your blessings. A lot of times we feel the weight of the world on our shoulders…the economy, stress at work, dwindling bank accounts…take tomorrow to look around the table and say to yourself, hey, I have a lot to be thankful for.
That is some pretty powerful advice. I look at this way, for a lot of us, we only see certain members of our families on Thanksgiving, so we really should soak it up and enjoy every minute. Even if our 3-year-old breaks several pieces of fancy china. From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
