Good morning fans. We have a very special announcement from ESPN this morning. It's fitting to release this announcement now, being that basketball is in full swing from the high school ranks up to the pros. Speaking of the pros, this announcement from ESPN and NBA Entertainment is about an NBA legend. Read on.
ESPN Films and the NBA have partnered to bring fans a very special film about NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The special will premiere Sunday, March 11th at 9pm on ESPN and ESPNHD.
Earvin "Magic" Johnson is one of the most highly revered names in the history of the NBA. During his career in the NBA, Johnson earned three MVP's, and led the Los Angeles Lakers to five NBA Championships. But on November 7th, 1991, Johnson made headlines not for what he did on the hardwood, but for something that had happened to him off the court. That was the day Johnson announced to the world that he had been diagnosed with HIV. Now, just over two decades later, ESPN Films and NBA Entertainment, along with director Nelson George (HBO's "Life Support"), take a look back at the day that shook the NBA and the sports world as a whole.
"The Announcement" looks back at Magic Johnson's career and rise to stardom, and how he has fought on through it all ever since. Interviews with friends, former teammates and rivals, and even his own wife and son help to tell Johnson's story.
