Good morning again, fans. Hopefully your Wednesday is off to a good start. I promised earlier this morning, a new music review thanks to the Reel Reviews music department. And I've got just that right now. Anyone that is a fan of the current crop of vampire/werewolf movies knows about all the Twilight movies. They probably know about the Underworld movies, too. Well, just recently, the newest movie in the Underworld franchise was released, along with its companion soundtrack. And that soundtrack is the focus of this morning's new edition of Reel Reviews. So for your consideration, I offer the recently released soundtrack to the new Underworld movie, "Awakening".
Vampires and Werewolves are all the rage right now. Just one look at the hit teeny bopper Twilight series shows that. On the other, darker side, is the long running Underworld franchise. That series recently saw the release of its fourth movie, "Underworld: Awakening". That movie's soundtrack hit store shelves at the end of January. For those expecting more of the harder edged material that was presented on the soundtracks for the franchise's first pair of movies, this soundtrack doesn't go in that direction. Rather, it's more closely related to the soundtrack from the previous movie in the Underworld series, "Ride of The Lycans".
The soundtrack is largely remixes, just as in the case of the previous movie's soundtrack. Though it isn't without its heavier moments. It opens with a remix of Evanescence's 'Made of Stone', and follows it up with an equally up tempo piece in 'Heavy Prey'. 'Heavy Prety features Flyleaf vocalist Lacey sturm and Geno Lenardo. Even Linkin Park gets the remix treatment in a redo of 'Blackout' thanks to former Nine Inch Nails member Danny Lohner. Even industrial rock veterans Ministry add their own touch to this soundtrack with a remix of 'Watch Yourself'.
Now, for those wanting something perhaps not as heavy as Ministry, Linkin Park or Evanescence, the Underworld Awakening soundtrack offers that too. The Naked and Famous offer up a remix via Mr. Lohner, of their song, 'Young Blood'. William Control also has a spot this time out, with Lohner's remix of his song, 'The Posthumous Letter'. And of course, there's also a remix of The Cure's 'Apart'. That's right, The Cure is still around. In simple terms, the Underworld Awakening Motion Picture Soundtrack isn't the same as the soundtracks to the first two films in the franchise. But that's not an entirely bad thing. It's actually good to see this soundtrack go a different direction from them, and even that of 'Rise of The Lycans'. It's a good compilation both for fans of goth rock and even metalheads. Regardless of which side fans take no this soundtrack, there's something for both sides to enjoy. That proves that this compilation can stand on its own merits both as a standalone compilation and as a great soundtrack.
