Preliminary reports show millions of people logged onto the world wide web
Monitoring firm Akamai spent the day tracking more than 270 online retail sites.
As of two o'clock Monday afternoon, those sites were seeing more than four million visits a minute.
Those figures show online traffic jumped nearly 39 percent from last year.
The National Retail Federation says 96 million Americans took advantage of deals on Cyber Monday.
That number is 11 million more than last year.
