COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - An executive of a pet food company says cat food that was subject of a recall announcement this week was made at a South Carolina plant.
The State reported Friday the food was made at the same Diamond Pet Foods plant in Gaston that produced toxic dog food in 2005.
The newspaper reported that Diamond president Mike Kampeter said the cat food was made in Gaston, but would not elaborate. It was made between May 28 and Aug. 30.
Diamond announced the recall of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat Food and Premium Edge Hairball Cat Food on Tuesday. The Meta, Mo., company said the foods were recalled Sept. 23 because they could produce thiamin deficiency in cats. No deaths have been reported.
Dog food made at the plant in 2005 had a poisonous fungus blamed for the deaths of 76 dogs.
