The busiest mailing day of the year has come and passed.

But if you're still shipping your holiday gifts, there's ways you can get it done quickly while saving money.

The U.S. Postal Service expected Monday to be its busiest day of the year, handling 40 percent more mail than an average day.

Fed Ex and UPS also anticipate this week will be their busiest.

Right now, there's a large amount of shipping offers online, including hundreds of retailers who will participate in 'Free Shipping Day' on Thursday.

Officials say it's important to ship now, to avoid paying more later.

Packages shipped as late as December 23rd can still make it in time for Christmas, via Fed Ex, UPS, or the Postal Service, but those next-day and air rates will cost you extra.
