Competitive people looking for jobs will be out in full force this holiday season.
Retailers aren't creating as many jobs as they were last year, but you can still land a job if you are willing to be flexible.
You'll have a better chance of finding work if you're willing to come in on days like Black Friday and Christmas Eve.
Also try to apply in person so the store manager can see what you're really about.
And be quick with getting your application in.
"The window of hiring for seasonal jobs is closing rapidly, it's at the end of November when that window will really close. So if you're looking for seasonal employment, the competition is fierce, and you need to apply immediately for those roles," says Jason Ferrera CareerBuilder Sr. Market Analyst.
And with the unemployment rate continuing to climb, experts say to expect slumping sales this holiday season.
Consumer Reports says a third of Americans will spend less money on gifts than they did last year.
More than half also plan to cut back on holiday travel and decorations.
