Some homeowners along the barrier islands of our state will soon be without insurance

State Farm says it will not renew homeowner policies on the Barrier Islands. The company says, it was a difficult decision, but they had to do it because the islands present a unique geographic challenge.
State Farm says their decision will affect about 1,600 policy holders. They say it’s a financial move.
State Farm also says they are not withdrawing policies from the coastal mainland, which is west of Intra-coastal Waterway.
9 On Your Side also talked with the NC Department of Insurance and they say they are disappointed with the decision.
