Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers perform Super Bowl halftime show

»  Comments | Post a Comment

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - A giant neon heart being pierced by a guitar-shaped arrow and then explosions: that's how Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers entered the Super Bowl.

They were the halftime entertainment for the Super Bowl, as the New York Giants took on the New England Patriots.

Petty performed four songs in just under 13 minutes, opening with "American Girl."

The band played "I Won't Back Down" as the words to the song and guitar necks were shown on huge screens behind them. The audience swayed with tiny lights in their hands as Petty played "Free Fallin'."

Petty closed the set with "Runnin' Down A Dream" while purple and green lights swirled on the opposite end of the field.
