LOS ANGELES (AP) - We now know what killed Pimp C.
A coroner's report in Los Angeles say the rapper died from an accidental overdose of codeine and promethazine.
Those were two drugs he used to make reference to lyrics like the song "Sippin' on some Syrup."
The coroner's office says Pimp C also suffered from sleep apnea, which causes people to stop breathing for up to 30 seconds at a time while sleeping. A coroner's official says it was the combination of sleep apnea and the overuse of cough syrup that did the rapper in.
DJ Screw, another key figure in the southern hip-hop scene, died of a heart attack in 2000. He reportedly OD' ed on codeine-laced cough syrup.
