Trial to start against two doctors who treated John Ritter

»  Comments | Post a Comment

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jury selection gets under way Tuesday in a medical negligence lawsuit filed by John Ritter's family.

Ritter's widow, Amy Yasbeck, and his children are suing a radiologist and a cardiologist.

The Ritters say John Ritter would have survived if the doctors had recognized he had a tear in the aorta and not treated it like a heart attack.

Ritter was 54 when he died in September 2003 after being taken from the Burbank, California, set of "8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter" to the emergency room at nearby Providence St. Joseph Medical Center.

Defense lawyers say Ritter's condition mimics a heart attack and that the doctors did nothing wrong.

The suit is asking for 67 million dollars in damages.

Ritter's family already has received a reported 14 million dollars in settlements with nine other medical entities, including the hospital.
