CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Authorities in Nevada say the live-in girlfriend of former "Beverly Hillbillies" star Max Baer Junior told officers before she died that she shot herself on purpose.
A sheriff's sergeant says a handwritten suicide note from Chere Rhodes was found in the Lake Tahoe home she shared with Baer. In it, she said there had been "relationship problems."
On Thursday, Baer had found Rhodes with a single shotgun wound to her chest. He called for help.
She was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Reno, where she didn't respond to emergency care.
She was placed on life support. Her family took her off life support on Sunday.
Police say they are still investigating, but no foul play is suspected.
Rhodes was 30 years old. Baer, who played Jethro on "The Beverly Hillbillies," is 70.
