WASHINGTON (AP) - Nicole Kidman concedes that some movies probably have contributed to violence against women by showing them as weak sex objects. But, Kidman says those are demeaning roles she's not interested in taking. And, she says the movie industry has made an effort to contribute to solutions for ending the violence. Kidman testified before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee that's considering legislation to deal with violence against women overseas. When asked by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of Orange County, California, if the movie industry has "played a bad role," Kidman said "probably." But, she quickly added that she herself doesn't. She said she "can't be responsible for all of Hollywood" but she "can certainly be responsible" for her own career. Nicole Kidman is a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Development Fund for Women, known as UNIFEM, to promote the International Violence Against Women Act.
