Just Delete It!

This week we take a look at new IRS scams targeting taxpayers.  Since we're in the heart of tax season, Nine is On Your Side with what you need to look out for.

The refund e-mail instructs it's victims to click a link and enter bank and credit card information.  In a new twist, this year, it targets tax exempt organizations as well.

The audit e-mail notifies you that your tax return will be audited. It's particularly misleading as it may include a personalized greeting to the intended victim.

The changes to tax law e-mail targets businesses, accountants, and others. You can be victimized by clicking a series of links that allows remote access to your computer. This can put your personal information at risk.

These e-mails are not sent to you by the IRS.

If you receive one or any of these emails, you should forward it to phishing@irs.gov.  This allows the IRS to track and shut down the scam.
