CHARLOTTE — Be Active North Carolina will host an event on March 20 to introduce a dynamic new program designed to teach North Carolina’s school children how to have fun and stay healthy all at the same time. The event had previously been scheduled for March 18, but has been shifted because of a scheduling conflict.
This exciting and innovative program is called Be Active HOPSports, an initiative driven by Be Active North Carolina Inc. and HOPSports Training Systems. It’s a blend of media, cutting-edge technology and good old-fashioned physical activity. It’s an instructional tool supporters believe should be in all North Carolina schools. At the event, Be Active also will unveil the results of an independent research study to substantiate that very assertion. This impartial study, conducted by three state universities, makes clear the growing problem of childhood obesity and identifies Be Active HOPSports as an effective tool to fight it. To date, the program has been used only on a pilot basis in schools across the state. Be Active and other supporters hope to see the program grow significantly.
The event is now set for 10 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at Discovery Place. Representatives are expected from a coalition of supporters, including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the Carolina Panthers and others.
The event will be part announcement, part celebration and part demonstration: In addition to the release of the study, local school children will work up a sweat by giving the Be Active HOPSports equipment a workout. All media are invited. Still and live photography of the demonstration are welcome.
