SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) - Muslim leaders in Michigan are condemning the failed attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas, calling it a violation of the spirit of Islam.
Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the Quran condemns murdering innocent civilians.
He said it's important for mainstream Muslims to speak for the vast majority of the world's Muslims and against the "minuscule percentage" who support terrorism.
In an appeal to reject profiling, Walid said: "To our fellow Americans, we ask you not to paint all Muslims with a broad brush and to resist the temptation to label us all as potential threats."
