PETOSKEY, Mich. (AP) - Matt Jones says he didn't believe in God when he donated a kidney to a stranger in 2007, but he knew the human body only needs one kidney and he wanted to do something good.
Jones now believes he's received far more precious than what he gave up. In his words, "I believe as a direct result of this I've come to know God and I believe there's nothing in life greater than that gift."
The Alliance for Paired Donation matched the 30-year-old Jones with a woman named Barb, whose husband, Ron, wanted to donate a kidney for her but was incompatible.
A week later, Ron donated one of his kidneys to an Ohio woman, and that woman's mother donated a kidney to another matched recipient.
The pay-it-forward chain has helped 10 sick people get new kidneys so far.
