Hopes for a Clean Energy Bill

Hopes for a Clean Energy Bill

Local small business leaders from eastern North Carolina gather at G.K. Butterfield's Wilson office

The phrase "clean energy" means producing energy from renewable sources like wind or solar power.
One group is hoping a local lawmaker will support a strong clean energy bill.
1st District Congressman G.K. Butterfield is on a committee considering new rules for energy. Today a group that supports "going green" visited his Wilson office. They and others want Butterfield to include green jobs, like installing solar energy systems as part of a new clean energy law.
"40 percent of the greenhouse emissions are from the houses and commercial buildings we live and work in. So if we can decrease that then we are pushing down the overall greenhouse effect.”
They say green jobs would also help put unemployed people to work.
