JASPER, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama church is looking to make a monumental statement to motorists along the future Interstate 22.
The Hunter's Chapel Holy Church of Christ is planning to build a 100-foot cross on its property in Walker County. Pastor Dale Hyche said the idea came after he and his wife saw a similar monument on a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Construction is set to being in February and take about 14 weeks to complete. The project will also include a prayer garden at the foot of the cross.
Hyche says the $232,000 monument will be paid for by donations from church members, other churches and businesses.
