CHICAGO (AP) - A new study has found that more high school and college students are dealing with mental health issues than people the same age did during the Great Depression.
The study, released Monday, confirms what counselors on campuses nationwide have long suspected as more students struggle with the stresses of school and life in general.
The findings were culled from responses to a popular psychological questionnaire used as far back as 1938.
Mental health professionals speculate that a popular culture increasingly focused on such external things as wealth, looks and status has contributed to the uptick in mental health issues. However, the study does not provide a definite correlation.
