JOS, Nigeria (AP) - The leader of a Nigerian human rights group says both Christians and Muslims received chilling text messages before and during the violence that left more than 300 dead.
The president of the Civil Rights Congress said Wednesday his group has collected about 150 text messages sent last week before the killings in central Nigeria.
Shehu Sani says the messages gave out addresses for mosques and Christians. The messages also suggested rioters use weapons like machetes and told attackers to firebomb homes.
One message read: "Kill them before they kill you."
Authorities say they've arrested more than 300 people on suspicion of taking part in the violence. About 5,000 were displaced by the attacks.
