GREENVILLE, N.C. - 47 dogs were rescued thanks to two suspected dogfighting raids in the East yesterday.
The first bust started in Pamlico County.
Deputies teamed up with the Humane Society of United States who says they already had Cody Ushry's name on file.
Investigators also found Ushry's website where he was selling dogs online.
Eventually they gathered enough evidence to get a search warrant and HSUS sent a group from Washington D.C. to help with the bust.
The team went out to Ushry's property on Florence Rd and when they went around the back of the house, they found 17 dogs, all American Pittbull Terriers.
"A couple of the dogs had extensive scarring that had healed and were older but majority of the dogs had some sort of wounds,” explained Janette Reever, an Investigator with HSUS.
Deputies say during their search they also found business cards in Ushry's home from Harry Hargrove, the North Carolina man known as a dogfighting legend who was recently sentenced to five years for his operation.
While questioning Ushry deputies say he tipped them off about his business partner Brian Devon Tucker in Pollocksville.
Pamlico Sheriffs Department called the Jones County Sheriffs Department to go check out Tucker's home.
When they got there they found 30 more dogs and evidence of dogfighting.
The team from HSUS then drove over to Pollocksville and helped remove the dogs and sort through the evidence.
Tucker was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and dogfighting.
Ushry has been charged with one count of felony cruelty to animals and one count of felony dogfighting.
