Farmville honored its own with a new memorial to veterans who gave their lives to the country.
Nine on Your Side’s Allan Hoffman gave the keynote address at Saturday’s dedication.
Members of the American Legion post 151 say a group of people in Farmville came up with the idea for the memorial.
The community took up the cause to raise money.
The post commander says it’s a way to honor people from the community killed in service overseas.
“This memorial will be open until next Memorial Day and we welcome anybody and everybody to come through here and see the sacrifices the people of this community have made,“ said David Gay, commander of Post 151.
Gay also says this week’s shooting at Fort Hood overwhelmed veterans across the country.
