It has been a wild and wooly Tuesday in the east weather-wise.
Some people are still without power, others are cleaning up following storm damage caused reportedly by tornados.
A reported tornado sent people scurrying and rescuers had to shut down a portion of Highway 43 in Pitt County when the storm knocked down power lines and scattered debris along the road.
The damage closed down a mile long stretch of the highway during rush hour.
“I didn’t know whether to hop out and jump in a ditch or to keep going—or back up I didn’t know what to do,” Kelly Buck said.
And while some homeowners took cover, the storm destroyed an entire home.
“I honestly believe if they had been there, they would not of made it,” Willie Scott said.
Greenville Utilities says the strong winds caused 250 people to lose power in southern Pitt County.
In Duplin County, the sheriff’s department says a tornado destroyed turkey houses in Warsaw; no reports of any people being hurt.
The American Red Cross opened a shelter at Rock Ridge Elementary School on Rock Ridge Road in Wilson.
The Wilson area had a dozen homes damaged, and the storm injured several people.

There was also a tronado that touched down in the Dixie Land subdivision off highway 222 in Johnston County. Lucky for all who live there only minor damage was done. I just know my mom and dad are pretty shook up as this storm went right through thier back yard ar 34 North Daisy Dr. in that subdivision. Some coverage over there would be great also.
