Officials have identified the North Carolina man who died last week after a barge struck his boat on Watts Bar Lake in East Tennessee.

Allen Ricks, a spokesman for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, told the Knoxville News Sentinel on Monday the victim was 53-year-old Jones B. Bare of Trap Hill, N.C.

Bare and his brother and his 12-year-old son were anchored on the lake when a barge struck them, sending them all into the water on Friday.

Bare’s body was recovered from the lake and the other two were able to swim to safety.

Ricks said an autopsy is being done and the collision remains under investigation by TWRA and the U.S. Coast Guard.
