OFFICIALS: Obama considering sending large number of additional troops to Afghanistan

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan may get extra troops sent there, just not the number he was looking for.

U.S. officials say President Obama is considering sending a large number of additional forces to Afghanistan next year.
   
But the number, which still hasn’t been determined, will likely be fewer than the 40 thousand the commander had requested.
