Hofstra beats Penn State in first round of WNIT
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) Sam Brigham had 18 points to lead Hofstra over Penn State, 76-68, in the first round of the WNIT on Thursday.
Shante Evans added 14 points and 17 rebounds for The Pride.
Penn State was led by Tyra Grant, who had 23 points. Nikki Greene added 11 points.
Hofstra started the game playing catch-up, not gaining the lead until less than three minutes remained in the first half. After that, they led for most of the rest of the game.
The Lady Lions were out-rebounded, 44-33.
Just three minutes into the game, Penn State's Julia Trogele hit the floor after a collision, screaming and clutching her right shoulder. She went into the locker room and did not return.
Gizelle Studevent replaced her for Penn State and added six points for the Lady Lions.
