Matthew Broderick play delayed by a week

NEW YORK (AP) - Matthew Broderick has an extra week to learn his lines for the new off-Broadway play “The Starry Messenger.“ He could probably use it because the first preview performance was plagued with problems. Broderick needed a prompter in the front row to help him with his lines. Messages posted on various theater Web sites say Broderick actually called out nearly a dozen times for his lines during last Monday’s preview. “The Starry Messenger” is a three-hour play about an astronomy teacher and his affair with a younger woman. It was written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan who did the movie, “You Can Count on Me.“ “The Starry Messenger” will now open November 23 instead of November 16. It’s at the Acorn Theatre on 42nd Street.
