New surgery aids those with hearing loss

A new kind of surgery may help people who’ve lost their hearing.

Researchers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center have developed a new method performing cochlear implants.
   
The old method was invasive and lengthy, but now, doctors are using an image-guided approach to get the same results more quickly and with less pain.   
   
The doctors eventually want to perform the surgery on an outpatient basis.
