Foster Care 101

This time last year there were roughly 14,000 children in our state in foster care system.
The Department of Social Services was reaching out with Foster Care 101.
Social workers talked with potential foster parents about state funding, Medicaid and adoption assistance provided by the state.
“I think there’s more stress on all family as the economy gets worse and we may see more need for children to be in foster care because there own family may be struggling,” said Susan Schwing, a local social worker.
Social workers say foster parents must remember foster care is always temporary and placing children back with their parents is the number one goal.
