Representatives from regional marine engine distributor Gregory Poole Marine Power presented a $2,000 check to Carteret Community College for a marine trades training scholarship.
The scholarship will be used to support degree-seeking marine mechanical and marine systems students at the North Carolina Marine Training and Education Center (NCMARTEC) on the college campus, and will be reoccurring annually.
“We’re proud to begin and foster this important corporate partnership with NCMARTEC,” said Walt Warren, corporate recruiter for Gregory Poole Marine Power. “The scholarship is meant for students who embody the Gregory Poole commitment to customer service and technical ability, and who are interested in working in the marine industry.”
Students can use the scholarship money for tuition, books, and tools.
“We have students who are very committed to the program, and this generous support from Gregory Poole will help them become top-notch marine technicians for North Carolina’s marine industry,” said David
Eastwood, coordinator of the Marine Propulsion program at NCMARTEC. The scholarships are merit based and will be available to currently enrolled students registering during the upcoming spring 2009 semester that begins January 8. NCMARTEC offers training in marine propulsion, marine systems, and boat manufacturing.
For more information about the scholarship, call the Financial Aid office at the college at 222-6151.
