The owner of a popular motorsports company is in trouble with the law.
Officials with the DMV License and Theft division say David Britt faces felony charges.
They say he altered or changed serial numbers on salvaged motorcycles and forged title applications.
Britt owns and operates Britt Motorsports, which has dealerships in Jacksonville, Morehead City and Wilmington.
Two other men face charges in connection with the crime.
DMV officials are urging people looking to buy motorcycles to check the bikes closely for any alterations. You can go to your local DMV License and Theft agency for a free inspection before purchasing one. These crimes can cause problems when you go to file for motorcycle insurance or file claims on your motorcycle.
