One man remains in the hospital tonight after driving his boat into the Atlantic Beach high rise bridge last night.

As we reported last night, three people were on board the 20 foot boat when it crashed into a piling around 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

One man was impaled on the steering column and had to be extracted by fire fighters. He was flown to the Pitt County Memorial Hospital trauma unit.

No names are being released.

The bridge was not damaged and investigator are trying to determine why he suddenly veered directly into the piling.
