    State health officials say there is one confirmed case of the H1N1 flu in North Carolina.
    The confirmed case comes from here in the east, in Onslow County.

Swine influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. Swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs. The swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human. Like the seasonal flu, swine flu in humans can vary in severity from mild to severe.

    State health officials are expecting the other probable Onslow case to be confirmed any day now.
    State health officials are continuing to monitor the probably cases of the H1N1 virus in our state.
    The statewide total of probable cases is now at six, with five of those cases coming from eastern North Carolina.
    One of the probable cases is from Onslow County.
    The county’s health department says it’s the spouse of the confirmed case there.
    They both travelled to San Antonio, Texas together.
    Four probable cases come from Craven County.
    State health investigators are trying to figure out how they possibly contracted the virus.
    The other probable case is in Wake County.
    Lab results are still pending on dozens of samples.
