A new study from Consumer Reports found that the chicken you feed your family may not be as safe as you thought.

Researchers bought 382 raw, whole chickens in 22 states. They tested for salmonella and dangerous bacteria called campylobacter. Researchers said nearly 2/3 of the chickens tested positive for one bacterium or both. The CDC estimates that these bacteria infect 3.3 million Americans, and kill more than 650 every year.

The National Chicken Council said raw chicken may have some microorganisms present, but these are destroyed by the heat of normal cooking.
