Federal review into the Greenville Housing Authority ends

  A federal review into the Greenville Housing Authority is over.  And despite numerous complaints from employees, the public and even elected officials—investigators found no wrongdoing.
  It all started with a letter to President Obama dated March 23rd, 2009.  Greenville councilwoman Rose Glover sent a letter to President Obama complaining of misused funds and mistreated residents and employees.
  That letter trickled through the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and to HUD of Greenboro.  Then in September state officials investigated Glover’s claims.
  A review board interviewed 20 staffers and scrutinized the Greenville Housing Authorities finances. They also held a public forum so that people in Greenville could have their voices heard.
  In the end, the housing authority was cleared, ““There opinion was there was no evidence of any actions that rose to the definition of mistreatment of residents or staff,” said chairman Sterling Edmonds.
    But what about complaints from employees about salary increases?  Some told authorities they were passed up for cost-of-living raises for the past three years.  And they questioned the evaluation standards for merit increases.  Edmonds adds it all boils down to budget problems not employer bias, “How can we balance the budget and continue to provide compensation and salaries and that kind of thing.“
