More than half of North Carolina's 100 counties were under severe weather watches or warnings as a low pressure system spawned heavy rains and flooding.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - More than half of North Carolina’s 100 counties were under severe weather watches or warnings as a low pressure system spawned heavy rains and flooding.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the Piedmont and southern mountains for Wednesday. Fifty-five counties are under watches or warnings Forecasters say more than two inches of rain could fall as the low moves through the state out of the Gulf of Mexico.
Meteorologists say nearly three inches of rain fell in areas of of western North Carolina, and another inch could fall before the storm moves out.
The weather service says the same storm could bring damaging winds and maybe even isolated tornadoes to the central and eastern part of the state after nightfall Wednesday.
