Group Wants a New Superintendent in Town
Wiley Doby has been the Superintendent for Duplin County Schools for the past three years. His contract is up for renewal and the Board of Education has to decide whether to keep him. There are some...
They call themselves the “No Doby Contract” group. Jimmy Dixon says, “We just feel like it’s in the best interest of education system of Duplin County, teachers and students that we seek elsewhere for someone else to head up our schools.“
And they took that message to the Board of Commissioners, too.
Karen Scalf says, “Superintendent Doby is firing people for false reasons, he is terminating their positions that are required by law to have, he’s moving employees just for retaliation this is unethical behavior.“
Doby says, “We try to treat people right and do treat people right every day.“ Doby tells us, those complaints aren’t true. He says, “We have to keep in mind when someone is the employee, they’re the employee of the school system as opposed to one school and there just a few instances when someone may have been moved to another school in order to preserve their job with the state budget crunch.“
About 30 people were in this rally. What does Doby think of their message? He says, “Well, certainly they have a right to their opinion and I respect their right to their opinion. I just ask folks to look at the fact that the performance of this school system since I’ve been here, it has been the team work of a lot of people, has increased significantly.“
Ultimately it’s up to the Board of Education to decide whether Doby stays or goes.
We called all 6 members of the Board of Education to get a response, but have not heard back from any of them at this time. The group is trying to encourage the community to attend next week’s Board of Education meeting to show the Board where they stand on the issue.
