Newport man caught in online predator sting

A man from the east thought he was chatting with a 14-year-old girl and investigators say he drove all the way to Greensboro to meet her.
 
But he found out his new online friend was actually a Sheriff’s detective.
   
Today 61-year-old Eric Spiwak, of Newport, pled guilty to possession of child pornography in federal court.
   
Because of prior convictions for indecent liberties, Spiwak faces up to 20 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release.
   
Investigators say they found about 460 child porn images on several zip drives in his home.
