Onslow County residents say Hanna didn't advance beach erosion
Beach erosion affects our entire eastern seaboard, especially here in North Carolina.
During the past few years, Nine On Your Side has told you about the ongoing issues North Topsail Beach has faced when it comes to erosion.
From the front steps of Topsail Reef Condos to the ocean is about 55 feet and while some in Topsail Beach residents say beach erosion is always a concern others say tropical storm Hanna really didn’t do much damage.
“We were here about a month ago and it looks pretty much the same as it did then,“ said Ron Shellenberger.
Condo owner Ed Zimmermann says there is only one thing about tropical storm Hanna that surprised him:
“Noise on the outside it sounded like a train just all the time,“ said Zimmermann
But Zimmerman isn’t holding Hanna responsible for stealing any sand.
“Hanna no. But I’m real concerned about beach erosion big time,“ remarked Zimmerman
Most people we talked to here at North Topsail Beach say drudging done by the Army Corps of Engineers this spring made a huge difference.
