Pit bull puppy euthanized after chewing off baby’s toes

A pit bull puppy that chewed the toes off a 4-month-old baby was put to sleep Wednesday.
   
Animal control says the 12-week-old dog tested negative for rabies.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says the mother and father went to sleep Sunday night and left the baby boy on the couch. They woke up to find the puppy they were pet-sitting had bitten off the toes on the baby’s left foot.
   
Robbie Jenkins and Tremaine Spillman face felony child abuse charges.
 
The infant is in stable condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
