Some Pitt County high school students got some hands on experience on career possibilities this afternoon.

Its part of Career Construction Day, an annual event that shows high school students the opportunities that are available in the construction field.

Students from Pitt and surrounding counties put on their hard harts and rolled up their sleeves to try their hand at some handy work.

They also got to climb in the driver seat of some heavy machinery and move some dirt.

But Chena Cayton with Pitt County schools says its not just for boys. “Females are non-tradition in the construction field. We are opening it up to show females that it’s not just running heavy equipment its electronics, its laying tile, its brick masonry. It’s many different types of opportunities for females as well so we’re trying to break those barriers,” she said.

This is the first time the event was held in Pitt County.
