Some students in the area will have a new way to understand their environment.

Wal-Mart donated $35,000 to Riverworks at Sturgeon City, a conservation and educational program in Onslow County.

Riverworks provides math and science enrichment programming to the school system.

The donation will help launch a new program for students to analyze data about the New River.

They can see how rainfall and human activity affects the river, as well as the plants and animals that live in it.

“This takes those examples and gives them real-world context or relevance to it,” said Riverworks Executive Director JP McCann.

Students can access the program on any computer with an internet connection.
