Teen Killed After Handgun Discharged, One Man Charged With Murder

Police have charged a man with murder, after a gun he was showing to his friends discharged, killing one person.
Jacksonville Police say 19-year-old Bryan Joshua Thorkelson died after he was shot in the head.
Officers began life saving measures on Thorkelson when they arrived at the scene.
He was transported to Onslow Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police have charged 21-year-old Michael Everett Smith with murder in the shooting.
The investigation revealed that Smith and Thorkelson were with several other friends, when Thorkelson began showing several people a handgun.
Smith was pointing the weapon at Thorkelson, when it discharged.
Smith has been placed in the Onslow County Jail with no bond.
