One company is looking into alternative ways to try and curb their problems with the slumping economy.
An internal memo sent to employees at Caron International in Washington offers employees a week of unpaid vacation and a five percent wage reduction or the possibility of being let go.
The plant is a subsidiary of National Spinning and employs around 185 people.
Company officials say the slumping economy made the changes and options necessary to stay afloat.
The plant manufactures yarn and craft kits.

I would rather take a weeks unpaid vacation and pay cut than get laid off, the car companies should do this also. Happy Thanksgiving, be thankful for a job and food on the table.
I have been employed at the company for over 24 years. I would much rather have a job than be unemployed.
Since I received the letter I can say that the information posted is not factually correct.
Many other textile companies in the US have collapsed. Our company officials have had to make some tough decisions to ensure the longevity of our business. I feel confident that they are doing what is best for us in the long run.
I have many friends in other industries that are also having cut-backs and layoffs. I think the country as a whole is in for some tough times.
