Some major money is headed to East Carolina University to help better prepare prospective teachers for the classroom.

ECU is getting more than one million dollars in a teacher quality partnership grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

It’s part of 43 million dollars given to 28 colleges and universities.

The money will help strengthen teaching skills and meet the highly qualified teacher requirements so that graduates can improve teaching in struggling public elementary and secondary schools.
