In an effort to reduce high school dropout rates, lawmakers in North Carolina have changed the cut off date for children entering kindergarten.

Only children who turn 5 on or by August 31, 2009 will be eligible to register for kindergarten this year.

The cut-off date was moved up a month and a half to make sure students are ready for school.

Parents are encouraged to go ahead and register their children now to avoid stress and save time.
