Pitt Co. teachers assistant calendar days under debate

On Monday night, the Pitt County School Board decided to put off deciding whether to cut 10 teacher assistant calendar days from the next school year.
The district says it would not affect instruction time—but it would affect *teacher workdays* when students aren’t in school.
Teacher assistants currently work K - 3rd grade.
“We were going to recommend reducing those number of days tonight,” said spokesperson Heather Mayo.  “However, the administration has decided to table the discussion and not make recommendations at this point in time because of the uncertainty at the state level.  With the budget at the state level with the announcement last week of the Governors reduced half-of-a-percent for all state employees.“
Heather Mayo says the state is already considering eliminating teacher assistants from grades three.
