Air Force fighter wing gets new commander

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) - The Air Force’s largest combat wing of F-16 fighter jets is getting a new commander at Shaw Air Force Base in central South Carolina.
    Col. Joseph Guastella assumes command Wednesday from Col. James Post, who is heading to a new assignment in Southwest Asia.
    Guastella will lead the 20th Fighter Wing, which is composed of three squadrons, or about 80 F-16CJ fighters, and another 19 additional support squadrons.
    F-16 pilots lure the enemy into firing surface-to-air missiles and anti-aircraft artillery so the jets can hone in on them with their specialized radars and fire back to destroy them. This is usually done in the opening hours of a conflict.
    In all, there are about 6,000 military and 1,000 civilian workers attached to the wing at Shaw.
