A military family in the east is earning national honors for it’s achievement.
The Leanes family was named the 2009 Military Family of the Year by the National Military Family Association.
Sergeant Denis Leanes is based at Camp Lejeune.
Kristy and Denis Leanes and their six kids traveled to Washington D.C. to visit with Senator Kay Hagan this week.
The family is very involved in the community, their church and on the base.
Senator Hagan says the family should be honored.
“It is definitely a very tight knit family and I think it shows the sacrifice they put forward for the freedom of our country,“ says Senator Kay Hagan.
They beat out six other families from the different branches of service.
